On March 6th,  a blockchain based platform was launched in order to aid and provide assistance for electronic voting by the support of the ruling party of the Russian Federation, United Russia. Ruling Party of The Russian Federation, United Russia Launches Blockchain Based E-voting.

United Russia made an update on its official website by launching an additional function of e-voting for its primaries. Vyacheslav Sateyev said that with the use of blockchain technology the vote tallying procedure will be implemented. He is the ruling party’s head of IT projects. He also stated:

“Candidates will be able to fill in their personal pages on this site. Also, including posting news, videos, photos, distributing their pages. We have also made an adaptive version of the site for mobile phones.”

The e-voting process is applicable to only those citizens who have completed the authorization procedure on the web portal. To provide and improve election transparency, the e-voting framework is created. Also, it eliminates intermediates in the electoral process.

The primaries are a straw vote held by United Russia for choosing party candidates at all levels for the general elections. In 2016, a number of candidates from United Russia who did not take an interest in the primaries kept running in the general races for the State Duma.

A month ago, the city committee of Moscow, presented a bill to utilize blockchain innovation for an e-voting framework. The local parliament of the Russian capital, the Moscow City Duma, is in plans to ensure the procedure and consequences of e-voting. 

Last December, Saratov Oblast, a district in Southern Russia, led a purportedly effective blockchain based election with 40,000 Participants.
