Square, which is a payments company, is presently hiring new employees who can operate and manage cryptocurrencies. However, the source of this information comes from a series of tweets from Square’s founder and CEO Jack Dorsey. Square Will Pay Newly Hired Employees in Bitcoin.
“Square is hiring 3-4 crypto engineers and 1 designer to work full-time on open source contributions to the bitcoin/crypto ecosystem. Apparently, work from anywhere, report directly to me, and we can even pay you in bitcoin,”
-Dorsey said in a tweet.
As per this latest development taking place at Square, the new hires will have the option of being paid in bitcoin. Previously Dorsey said that bitcoin is the world’s single native currency of the future. Currently, Square’s cash app supports bitcoin purchases and sales, so it will be interesting to see what the team will be working on.
“These folks will focus entirely on what’s best for the crypto community and individual economic empowerment. Not on Square’s commercial interests. However, all resulting work will be open and free,”
–Dorsey pointed out.
Dorsey further added that building upon the current crypto ecosystem is the most impactful thing Square can do for the community right now.
“Square has taken a lot from the open source community to get us here. We haven’t given enough back. However, this is a small way to give back, and one that’s aligned with our broader interests: a more accessible global financial system for the internet.”
–founder and CEO Jack Dorsey
Jack Dorsey said the hired candidates will report directly to him, and that this will be the first time that Square will provide efforts for an open source initiative that is independent of its own business objectives. Square Will Pay Newly Hired Employees in Bitcoin.
“I love this technology and community. I found it to be deeply principled, purpose-driven, edgy, and…really weird. Just like the early internet! Also, I’m excited to get to learn more directly.”
– CEO Jack Dorsey
In May 2018, at the Consensus blockchain and cryptocurrency conference, Dorsey reported that he believes that the internet should have its own currency and that bitcoin may just be it.
