Thanks to a partnership between mobile giant AT&T and payment service provider BitPay, the telecom company will now accept cryptocurrency as payment. AT&T made this announcement on. Collaboration between BitPay and AT&T results in bill payments in crypto.
BitPay has not agreed to work in AT&T’s storefronts yet. The option to pay with cryptocurrency is currently only available for bill payments. This payment choice is not being extended to other AT&T services, such as buying phones or other devices. The company made it clear that the new offering will give its customers their preferred option.
“We’re always looking for ways to improve and expand our services,” vice president at AT&T, Kevin McDorman, said. “We have customers who use cryptocurrency, and we are happy we can offer them a way to pay their bills with the method they prefer.”
An AT&T spokesperson commented on the announcement:
“BitPay provides payment processing services for merchants and is one of the largest bitcoin payment processors in the world. Our customers are on this platform and we are always looking for different ways to better serve our customers.”
Collaboration between BitPay and AT&T results in bill payments in crypto. The cryptocurrencies that will be accepted by AT&T were not specified in the announcement. However, the list of supported currencies on BitPay’s website suggest that Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, Gemini USD, Paxos, and Circle’s US Dollar Coin could all be supported.
