Tech Giant Cisco Won a Patent To Secure 5G Networks Using Blockchain

Cisco, the IT company, has received a patent detailing how it can secure 5G telecom networks by leveraging blockchain technology. Tech Giant Cisco won a patent to secure 5G networks using blockchain.

As per a November filing from the USPTO, the firm applied for a patent on how to leverage Blockchain for wireless telecom networks.

The Blockchain-based platform would supervise data between virtual networks and phone or laptop users. The technology would oversee the exchange of data between virtualized networks and the Blockchain interface-based devices.

The filing stated, “This service-oriented architecture supports network slices, which employ an isolated set of programmable resources that can implement individual network functions and/or application services through software programs within a respective network slice, without interfering with other functions and services on coexisting network slices.”

Cisco has been examining the integration of Blockchain and the Internet of Things system. The following IT firms have utilized Hyperledger, Ethereum and Quorum platforms to modernize their products:

  • Bosch
  • The Bank of New York Mellon
  • Filament
  • Chronicled

In 2019, Cisco collaborated with SingularityNET, an AI solution provider, to decentralize the AI-based systems through Blockchain. The firm has also planned to use the technology for creating a safer environment for a network’s group chats.
