A cryptocurrency exchange has reportedly been set up by Norwegian business magnate Bjørn Kjos and his family. They plan to introduce bitcoin payments at their airline, Norwegian Air Shuttle. Founder of Norwegian Air Set to Accept Bitcoin Through Own Exchange.
Last Tuesday, local business newspaper Dagens Naeringsliv (DN) reported the new exchange is dubbed Norwegian Block Exchange (NBX). However, the launch date for the exchange is set for August.
Having bought NOK 3.5 million ($404,000) worth of the cryptocurrency in 2017, the magnate’s son, Lars Ola Kjos, is also said to have become a bitcoin investor. Bitcoin prices were far below their current levels of $10,000 at the time,
Founder of Norwegian Air Set to Accept Bitcoin Through Own Exchange. The investment came to light through documents from Lars’ company Green 91, according to DN said. The acquisition makes Lars Ola Kjos one of Norway’s top crypto investors. According to the report, the Kjos family owns almost outright the Norwegian Block Exchange, of which he is also a board member.
The plan is to expand to neighboring countries once the exchange is up and running. DN says that in autumn, the company will provide a payment solution enabling Norwegian Air Shuttle customers to pay for tickets with cryptocurrency.
